The best way to test yourself at home to see if the adrenal glands are over active (hyperfunction) is to do a test which measures the hormone Cortisol and DHEA that your adrenal glands produce and thereby monitor the levels to be certain they are or return to normal.
Use the StressCheck to monitor the stress hormones of your body and monitor the results of supplements and vitamins to see how your body is responding.
For a more comprehensive evaluation of your adrenal glands call our office for the Adrenocortex Stress Profile from Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab.

Glands are parts of the body that produce chemical messengers released into the blood stream and thereby have an effect other parts of the body. The adrenal glands produce many types of hormones effecting your body in very many ways explained in detail in Body Mechanics.
ADHS should also be considered with hypertension due to adrenal hyperfunction, dysinsulinism (Syndrome-X - insulin resistance) and other cases where adrenal cortical dysfunction is known or suspected. It is clear that high blood levels of adrenal hormones can lead to insulin resistance and that contributes to the presence of high blood pressure. The high insulin levels resulting from insulin resistance may also contribute to abnormalities in blood lipids—cholesterol and triglycerides.
Initially, excessive cortisol production (which can lead to insulin insensitivity, immunosuppression and the thinning of the gut lining) may result from an overactive HPA axis. Later, the body’s ability to synthesize cortisol and other steroid hormones may decrease. Ultimately, chronic stress can lead to adrenal exhaustion and low cortisol output.
ADHS nutritionally supports desired DHEA, Secretory IgA and normal cortisol levels.
ADHS supplies raw materials necessary for the synthesis of steroid hormones and epinephrine, the conversion of tyrosine to catecholamines, and hormonal secretion. Nutrients required for carbohydrate metabolism and mitochondrial energy production are provided, as are nutrients needed for tissue growth and repair, including stem cell differentiation and proliferation.
Additionally, ADHS incorporates a unique blend of Chinese and Ayurvedic herbal components providing constituents shown to support normal organ function in response to stress.
